1. Criteria for nomination:

• Nominee may not have been found guilty in a disciplinary hearing/may not have committed a grade 3 or 4 transgression during the year preceding the election.
• Nominee must maintain a minimum of 90% school attendance.
• Nominee must exhibit dedicated participation in at least two extra-mural activities.

2. Procedure:

• Any learner may nominate a grade 11 learner who fulfils the criteria.
• First round of voting (should this be necessary):
  • Gr 11 learners vote for the nominees
  • Number of nominees will be reduced to a fixed percentage (40%) of the total number of learners in the grade.
  • These learners’ names will appear on the final ballot paper.
• Second round of voting:
  • Gr 8, 9, 10, 11, outgoing prefects and staff take part in the voting process.
  • The total number that will be chosen is a fixed percentage (25%) of the total number of learners in grade 11.

3. Head prefects are chosen by the newly elected prefect body.
