For the National Senior Certificate a learner must select 7 subjects.

Learners choose one subject from each of the following groups:

MUSIC AS AN EXTRA SUBJECT

Life without music would be so quiet, and at D.F. Malherbe High School we love to send our melodies out. We offer piano, marimba, voice, drums, trombone and much more. We have solo and group performances annually at our special music evening, D.F. Arts Festival and much more. Our learners also compete at various SASMT competitions and collaborative events during the course of the year. We currently use Trinity College of Music and Rock School as our examining body. We strive to develop our music students and to expose them to various stage settings and also to purely fall in love with music. Learners receive two lessons in a 10-day cycle, preparing them for their practical exams. Our music learners are disciplined musicians developing their craft to the best of their abilities.
