The Malherbiet is a prize-winning school newspaper that was established in 1988. In 2022, Malherbiet changed from a printed, quarterly edition to a fast-paced, ‘as the news happens’ online version on Instagram, keeping Malherbiete and parents up to date instantly. The Malherbiet is produced solely by learners who have a passion for language, news, photography, graphic design and video editing.

The Malherbiet covers all school news, from general news to sport and culture. Journalists and photographers are a regular sight at all events, ranging from Interschools to the Arts Festival.

Learners from grade 9 onwards are welcome to apply to join the Malherbiet. At the beginning of each new year, the editorial team holds a workshop for new journalists and photographers to undergo training.

Applications to be part of the team take place online every October. Grade 8 – 11 learners, who have a passion for writing or photography, are encouraged to apply. Information regarding applications will appear on the school’s notice boards. Members who have been accepted onto The Malherbiet will be informed early in January.
